Our Background

Our Ministry of Prevention and
Systemic Change

Early in our career we both taught, published, supervised and provided the full range of psychological assessment and therapy services. However, we gradually shifted and today focus almost exclusively upon prevention and systemic change through training, facilitating and consulting services. We have over thirty years of experience working with leadership teams, religious congregations and other value-based organizations. This is the direction in which we believe we are called to focus our ministry. Though we have shifted our focus from individuals to systemic change, our extensive clinical experience in the psychology of healing remains one of our strongest assets in our ongoing work leadership teams and religious communities.

Education

Both of us are licensed clinical psychologists with experience as organizational and leadership consultants, faculty members, psychotherapists, and supervisors to professionals in the field of mental health. Ted obtained his undergraduate training at Ohio State University, his master’s and doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from St. Louis University, and his internship at Rutgers Medical School in New Jersey. Beth obtained her undergraduate training at Maryville College, her master’s from Loyola University of Chicago, doctoral degree from St. Louis University and her internship at Indiana University Medical School.

Assessment

We have extensive experience and expertise in providing pscyhological and vocation evaluations as well as  community-wide and organizational assessments. In the past we have conducted hundreds of psychological, neuropsychological and forensic assessments. We have conducted evaluations for infants and children up through senior populations; from the inpatient to outpatient, as well as non-patient populations (e.g., seminary students and novices); from individuals and couples to families and organizational systems; from premarital screenings to divorce mediation and court ordered custody evaluations. We have provided consultation for hospitals in the development of assessment laboratories and services.

Treatment

Both of us have provided therapy services for diverse populations across a wide array of settings. We have worked from an integrated perspective using psychodynamic and systems theories as overarching, conceptual frameworks. Our practice of therapy has been eclectic and varies in length depending upon the specific goals established. We have extensive experience in supervising students and professionals in their provision of therapy services. Most of our clients have sought our services for individual therapy and the rest in couples and sex therapy, group and family therapy, as well as crisis intervention. We ran a open-ended therapy group for adult survivors of incest for over ten years.
